Oh, man! I have been waiting for this event for over a month now and so have the ladies, who have splashed out thousands of Rands on their dresses for the event. And Shimbavi has been spying on Brianna for almost two days solid now, as she really is working herself up into a frenzy!
Saturday morning was more chaotic than usual, because Brianna, Torquay and Mei-Li stayed out late at a nightclub in Long Street drinking cocktails (I hope...) and Shimbavi spent a few hours trawling the "Turtle" in lower Long Street trying to score some weed from Sadiq or Quantas the merchants there.
So it was no surprise, when I woke up to find both Mei-Li and Shimbavi arguing and moaning about needing to use the bathroom urgently, while Shimbavi was already breaking wind to make the SouthEaster jealous! I went into the kitchen to find Brianna perched on top of the sink with her butt in the sink and a very hungover look to her face. I took one look and cracked up laughing, as they had only got back at about three in the morning and I switched the kettle on, as I heard a particularly loud bout of gas erupt from Shimbavi.
I headed back to my room to wake Su Tze (Mei-Li's cousin, who I had hooked up with last night) and just spotted Shimbavi scampering out through the sliding-doors to the verandah with both hands clutching the seat of her pajama-bottoms. 'Not in the Azaleas, Shimbavi! They've only just recovered from New Year's Eve!', I moaned loudly at Shimbavi's shadow. Not that New Year's was the first time either, because Shimbavi tended to "go back to nature" on a fairly regular schedule, whenever she eats too much of the really hot Indian Bean Curry that they sell at this popular restuarant in Long Street.
Anyway, we finally get out of the house at about ten to eleven and start the drive to the Racetrack, with a few emergency stops when either Shimbavi or Mei-Li have to suddenly find a bathroom. Torquay moans that both of them had dug into the dark traditional atchar and that had apparently caused massive gastroenteritis for both ladies. I just laughed and joke that it probably serves them right.
We got to the Racetrack at around Noon, hoping that we had not missed all the fun and excitement and fortunately we were lucky. The theme was 'In Full Colour' and all five women (including Su-Tze) were dressed to the nines in a riot of colourful dresses. Though I do have to say that one wonders which is more important, making a fashion statement or enjoying the atmosphere and some of the ladies can definately get too involved in being seen and heard... Jeanie D, the TopBilling/Top Travel presenter can be very tarty and snobbish with people when they block her from the limelight, as she snapped at Brianna when she tried to speak to her and compliment Jeanie. We all know that Jeanie D is such a celebrity, but that doesn't mean that she needs to act like a stuck up twit, regardless of her physical attributes, because she takes herself far too seriously at times.
There were a lot of people moving into the grounds and, depite my adriot parking, my Askari VX1 nearly got dented twice by other drivers, though it is probably very hard to miss. However, that's not a very reassuring experience for anyone owning a 235,000 Pound sportscar and maybe the BMW M6 would have been a better choice...
Mei-Li and Su-Tze were wanting to place their bets on Mother Russia for some reason so we went to check out the horses and decide on which ones we thought would win. Though a lot of people were talking about Pocket Power being a Sure Bet to win, but anything can happen on a racetrack, as everyone well knows. After looking at Mother Russia, the fillie was very impressive and I decided totake a chance by posting a bet on her to come in first.
All three us won which was a lot of fun and made our day... With all the fun and excitement, we almost didn't want to leave and go home! But we did much later, after sunset...
